My music background is pretty boring. Many many years of piano lessons came to an end when I met Ravel's Sonatine (First Movement). That piece took over seven months to learn. It was the anvil that broke the camel's back. So I quit lessons and just started screwing around with bass guitar ... piano composition ... and whatever was fun.
I have been taking piano lessons since the age of six and started playing trombone when I was ten. When I was in junior high school, I started to seriously write music after becoming obsessed with classical music. It was at this time I decided I wanted to compose music for the rest of my life. This was also a time when I was immersed in Bungie games and was investigating the authors and the processes in which the beautiful music and sound were made.
In November of 2001, I started working on a project. If I had known what I was getting myself into ... I probably wouldn't have started in the first place. But that's true of many things in life. I guess I just wanted to make really cool music set in the glorious Bungie universe.
I kept writing all through High School which ranged from small instrumental scores/keyboard works, to working with Midi. I was having fun making cheesy fan Midi files that no one will ever hear. Later on I got some more sophisticated software and when I joined Psyjnir, was already experienced with some digital composition techniques.
So I started extracting all the sound from Marathon. My first project, Carol of the BoBs, wasn't particularly ambitious and only took a few weeks to complete. It was more a feat in mixing and pitch shifting than composition, but I was very happy with it and threw myself into something a bit more ... daring. I began the monumental task of extracting every sound from every major Bungie game since Marathon 1. Along the way, I started collecting cool audio tidbits scattered across the community. By the time I joined Psyjnir, I had everything from all three Marathons and Myth: TFL.
Both Jester and I have always shared the interests of playing, listening, and making music. When we met up in the Psyjnir Complex, years ago, we discovered that we both worshipped all Bungie audio. This was everything from Alex Seropian’s classic Marathon toe-tappers to the present day musical rampage simply known as "Marty O’Donnell”.
So we started to combine our efforts. I help SilverBrin whenever he needs samples or advice on mixing. And he provides me with an amount of compositional knowledge and experience far beyond my own. But at some point I decided that we needed a permanent place to put our own music.
This section is specifically for showcasing the work we do. Technically it is not limited to just Bungie fan music we create, but any audio or music files we cook up and are willing to share. There might very well be some personal work to be listened to. We ask that if you use any of our files you give us and or Bungie the proper credit by copying the information we have imbedded in the title and author listings. We sincerely hope you enjoy our humble attempts at making music and providing some semblance of original art for ourselves and for the community. We encourage anyone and everyone to contribute and get involved with www.psyjnir.org.
SilverBrin**** is currently a music composition major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is active in bands,
audio composing, and score writing.
Jester is currently lost somewhere on the campus of Boise State University. Word has it that he's wandered into
the music department.
